Great Jazz Pianists that moan when they play

( Jazz and Music and audio and virtuosos )

I’m compiling a list of great jazz pianists that moan when they play. I wonder if it’s a stylistic choice, or some artistic savant thing that trips when you hit a certain level of genius. Anyway so far I have:
Erroll Garner
Keith Jarrett
Oscar Peterson
Bud Powell

Hello, Soso, Baidu and Sogou users

( Music and audio )

Soso.com linked to my Bach Remix and it got downloaded 21628 times on December 23rd…It killed my bandwidth. I also get a lot of traffic each month from Baidu and Sogou for Beautiful Dreamer and The DnB Concerto. China must have much better mp3 crawlers than the US, and a larger online music fanbase.

Chucho Valdes - Live Ponle La Clave online

( Jazz and Music and afro-cuban and audio and drumming and favorite music )

Now that I’m realizing how easy it is to share music via embedded youtube videos, I’ll start discussing music:
Here is a great video of Chucho Valdes playing one of my all time favorite songs, Ponle La Clave. Here is the second half:

I skipped to that so you wouldn’t miss the awesome drumming. But here is [...]

Rip MP3s from youtube online

( Music and audio and favorite music and video )

I don’t know why the MAFIAA (MPAA, RIAA, etc) is so vehement about eradicating mp3s from the interent but then allowing all kinds of music on youtube, but it’s trival to download the FLV from youtube for listening and watching later, to convert it to other formats, or to strip the audio into mp3 for [...]

Tool shortcuts for Finale 2008

( Music and finale )

One thing that bugs me in Finale is the inability to switch tools with keyboard shortcuts. Programs like Photoshop, Logic, Reason, and Final Cut Pro have quick default keyboard shortcuts for switching between tools. Finale’s metatools are great for applying articulations, expressions and dynamics quickly, but no default keyboard shortcuts for selecting those tools.
In the [...]

My DIY Keyboard Drawer

( Music and diy )

So I’ll put up plans later, but here are pictures of my do it yourself MIDI keyboard drawer I just finished (click to enlarge):

Free Explanation Album Online

( Music and drumming )

I put all of the 2005 Explanation album online. It plays when you visit the site and you can also download all of the mp3s.
http://theexplanation.com.
I played drums in the Explanation from 2003-2005 and recorded the first five tracks of this album.
Now that The Explanation’s over I’m in a new band, Samantha with former Exp guitarist [...]

New Favorite Current Band - The Flashbulb

I just found the band The Flashbulb, which is the answer to my posted previous question, is there anything these days that can rival 90’s Squarepusher? This stuff is mindblowing. Really good IDM and well composed music, and best of all, he’s based in Chicago! I had no idea that scene even existed here.
Radiohead’s In [...]

Tim Robbins Jamming at BB’s

So I won two tickets to the Tony T Memorial Concert at BB’s tonight from the radio station WSIE 88.7. They mention having a special guest there but I’m just psyched to hear the jazz.
Elizabeth says “look there’s the actor Tim Robbins, I think he’s supposed to play harmonica later,” and I say “that’s funny. [...]

Raul Pineda is my all-time favorite drummer

( Jazz and Music and drumming and virtuosos )

Call me a Raul Pineda fan.
I’ve been obsessed with Chucho Valdes’s track Ponle La Clave from Live at the Village Vanguard ever since I first heard an MP3 of it in college (mislabeled as ‘ponte la clave’). I later bought the album Live at the Village Vanguard, which is great, and so is Valdes’s similar [...]
