New Youtube Videos - part 2

( Music and originals and video )

I’m redesigning my front page but meanwhile here are some more videos from the past couple months. These are more orchestrations of Persichetti, Bartók and Faith rescored to a popular film:
Rural Games

Night Discovery

Both pieces were performed by members of the Chicago Civic Orchestra and conducted by Cliff Colnot.

New Youtube Videos - part 1

( Music and notation and originals and video and wii )

Here are some new videos of work I’ve done.

I’m trying to think of ways of altering the original videos that I’m rescoring so that they seem fresh again. Here is another original video:

One idea I had was to overlay the video with an inset of the recording session and a scrolling score:

Here are instructions on how to make a Music Staff Roller Stamp, a rolling ink stamp you can use to quickly draw a staff onto paper for jotting down musical ideas.

Three things I’d like to see on Netflix

( misc and video )

As a new Netflix user, here are a couple things I’d like to see:
Sort queue by preference automatically. Like, I’d like newest releases on top and the classics on the bottom for when my queue is almost empty. I’d also like stuff like documentaries towards the bottom unless I specify otherwise.
RSS feeds of my ratings, [...]

Translations - Newest score on Youtube

( Music and originals and video )

I thought I would also post my newest video here so it would get picked up by my blog feed.
I’m now attending Columbia Chicago’s Music for the Screen graduate program, and am loving it. For our music and drama final project, we were asked to score music that would be performed live along with live [...]

Johnny Lee’s wiimote head tracking is even cooler

( diy and video and wii )

Johnny Lee’s latest wiimote hack, tracking your head position and alternating a 3D display accordingly, is even cooler:

I installed the software and it gave me a “FishtankVR has encoundered a problem and needs to close” error, but that was fixed by installing the DirectX SDK.
I can get the program to work just by holding my [...]

Rip MP3s from youtube online

( Music and audio and favorite music and video )

I don’t know why the MAFIAA (MPAA, RIAA, etc) is so vehement about eradicating mp3s from the interent but then allowing all kinds of music on youtube, but it’s trival to download the FLV from youtube for listening and watching later, to convert it to other formats, or to strip the audio into mp3 for [...]

Converted DIY IR Pen from Candy Toy

( diy and multitouch and video and wii )

-Update-
I modified my original design, swapping the LED onto the other end of the pen and ditching the cardboard. The thinner end plus the see through tube makes this version work magnificently.
This version was harder because I had to drill holes for the led and the wires to go through several parts of the base, [...]

HD Receiver alternative - cheap home theatre follow up

( Gear and audio and diy and video )

My do it yourself speaker stand post is the most popular one on the site so I thought I’d follow up with other cheap alternatives I’ve been using to create my home theatre.
I have a great HD projector and a nice AV setup with my DIY stands and 7.1 surround sound computer speakers. I built [...]
