?autoplay=false

Posted on Wednesday 13 October 2010

I added this simple code to turn off autoplay when loading my site:

[object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="300" height="153"
data="http://jordanbalagot.com/xspf_player.swf?playlist_url=http://jordanbalagot.com/jbplaylist.xml&autoplay=&autoresume=0&volume_level=50">
[/object>

(Replace the [s with <)
Now you can add ?autoplay=false to any page or blog post on my site and it will disable autoplay.

    Ok, but can you make that sticky? Or rather, can you give me a button that will do that and then remember the setting for the next time i visit your blog? Also, the player should have a ‘minimize’ button, or– oh, oh!– a small version that is essentially just the first line of the larger version (with the play controls and the current track title).

    Generally, I love the idea and it’s well-made, but I never want music or sound to start playing when I visit a site initially. Maybe I’m trying to read your blog while I’m in a meeting with clients (who happen to be boring), or maybe I’m reading it in the library’s reading room– basically, I don’t want to disturb anyone.
